Sailing Again
Trip from George Town to Cat Island
Last time we had been sailing out in the ocean (except for a couple hour down to George Town along the bank) was back at the beginning of February, before Grace visited. We have been sailing or motoring on the protected Exuma bank since.
On Sunday, we decided we were both ready to get moving again, especially because last week we finalized our plans for where to leave Aurora at the end of this season. Thanks to lots of cruiser’s suggestions, we were able to get a space to put Aurora on dry dock at Brunswick Marina in Georgia for hurricane season. We have about a month to get there, so north we go.
We left George Town with about 20 other boats Tuesday morning around slack tide (a small window of time when tide reaches high or low tide). Most boats headed north again along the Exumas. We decided to head northeast to Cat Island. A little off the beaten path- we were ready for quiet and some sailing. It felt good to be out on the ocean again and we had a great day of sailing. We anchored at Cat around 4pm after leaving George Town around 7:30am. The last hour and a half we had to motor directly into the eastern winds, but most of the day we were going about 7 knots with two full sails. Woot! Woot!

I don’t understand woot-woot but Gracie does. Nice to see you at sail again. Lovely to know things are much more positive than the problems you first encountered. It’s like you’re a couple of “weathered sea dogs” now - not sure If that’s a compliment or not. Regardless, I enjoy your updates and appreciate your taking time to be informative. Love, Chuck
Amazing adventure! Thanks for the book recommendation. I just finished the book Frozen River about a midwife in the 18th century, great read!
